Our Feeding and Mealtime Clinic offers a multidisciplinary approach to assessing, understanding and helping with the food and mealtime challenges of children and their families. Our team is led by our fully qualified and experienced Dietitian who is supported by Speech Pathologists and an Occupational Therapist. Our team is also able to access further support from our Psychologist as required.

The aims of our feeding and mealtime clinic

  • To assess and understand all the factors contributing to difficulties with eating and mealtimes.
  • To develop and implement a comprehensive plan to address mealtime challenges and difficulties with food.
  • To create positive experiences for children and parents around food including exploration, investigation, mealtimes, and expanding the range of foods in a child’s diet.

Who does the clinic suit?

Children and their parents where there is/are:

  • Fussy or picky eating.
  • Sensory or behavioural challenges at mealtimes.
  • Communication, cognitive, social, dietary or physical barriers to eating.

How does the clinic work?

  • The Feeding Development Framework is used to understand all aspects of feeding and mealtime difficulties
  • Our Dietitian uses the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) approach to feeding intervention.
  • There is active coordination between team members to ensure cohesive interventions are provided.

Communication, sensory, behavioural, and visual supports for positive food experiences and mealtimes are tailored to the needs of each child and their family.
